Cool Science Experiments

Awesome Science Experiment Ideas!

Just looking for some good science experiment ideas? Do you want to "wow" your friends? Looking for science experiment ideas for the classroom? Perhaps you just like science and want to see something fun happen...well we can point you in the right direction.

We will be adding new science experiments regularly.

Soda Bottle Cyclone - This is fun science experiment and is so easy.

• 2 2 liter soda bottles with caps
• Water
• Silicon caulking
• Duct tape
• Drill
• Food coloring

1. Take the caps off both the pop bottles.
2. Use the drill to make a 1/2 inch hole in the center of each cap.
3. Apply a bead of silicon around the holes to seal them, but make sure it's far enough away that you don't let the caulking fill the holes. Now place the caps together and let dry. Make sure the holes are clear.
4. Duct tape around the outside of the two caps will add strength to bond between them.
5. Screw the double cap onto one of the soda bottles.
6. Fill the other soda bottle about 3/4 full with your water. Add your food coloring to the water if you want.
7. Screw the empty bottle onto the top of the bottle containing the water.
8. Flip your bottles over and swirl them. A vortex forms as the water drains into the lower bottle.

Create Giant Salt Crystals - Watch crystals grow.

• 1/4 cup epsom salts bath crystals
• 1/2 cup water
• Shallow container
• Sponge

1. Boil water. Add epsom salts after taking water from heat and stir until completely dissolved.
2. Pour into your container. A shallow layer is enough, just to cover the bottom. If you chose to use a sponge, pour the mixture on the sponge.
3. Let the mixture dry. Sunshine is best! As the water evaporates, crystals will start to form.

Detect Iron in Cereal - This science experiment shows that there is more in our cereal than just whole grains!

• 1 Tall Narrow Glass
• 1/2 cup water
• 2 Cups of Cereal - Total Brand works best

• Magnet
• Blender

1. Put Cereal and Water into blender and blend until cereal is finely chopped.
2. Pour mixture into Tall Narrow Glass.
3. Run Magnet along side of glass and watch to see if any of the mixture is attracted to the moving magnet. Iron particles will move with the magnet as you run it along the glass.

Turn it into a science fair project! Use the scientific method: Develop a hypothesis first and then test it by running this experiment. Here's a sample hypothesis: Popular cereal brands are fortified with small iron particles just as the labels say.

Make Your Own Hotsauce - This experiment is too fun and too spicy for Science-Ideas.Com not to mention. We found a kit which allows you to make your own custom hot sauces. It's chemistry and good taste all in one package. Nice!
